if you all will indulge me for a moment.

i must confess that i have a defiant streak in me.

this outfit.

like most of my outfits.

are reactions to people setting rules.

i enjoy breaking them.

when someone says i cant do something, especially if its deemed uncool.

ill do it.

with bravado.

with gusto.

with panache.

with the biggest damn grin on my face.

im aware this is not the most admirable personality trait.

and it has gotten me into sticky situations before.

but people dont change.

or more specifically.

IM A STUBBORN SON OF A GUN.

ahem.

two supposed “rules” brought me to this outfit.

1. “Don’t pop your collar on a jacket, especially on a double breasted one.”
2. “You ought not to wear jeans with double monk strap shoes.”

i thought to myself.

well, the game is afoot.

i rummaged through my closet and strung together this outfit in a frantic manner.

I MUST DEFY.

I MUST STAND OUT.

i don’t think this outfit is going to start any style revolutions.

but when you challenge your notions of what is aesthetically pleasing.

you might surprise yourself with what works.

and what bombs.

remember: you can’t win the superbowl every year.

one of these days, when i am much older.

i will be sitting on my porch.

drinking an iced tea.

the sun warming my bare ankles.

my rocking chair creaking in time.

the pond will lap the pebbled shore in the background.

the row boat will bump against the dock every so often.

i’ll be content telling stories to my grandchildren.

stories about the golden age of WIWT’s.

a simpler time.

a quieter time.

maybe then, this rebellious fire will subside.

but in the meantime…

greens, burgundy, black. all colors i rarely wear, especially at the same time.

but i am a grown man.

it is time to step out of the constricting box that is blues, grays, light blues, really light blues, and pale blues.

REMINDER:

• if you are throwing a party tomorrow don’t forget, you can never have too much ice.
• if you are attending a party tomorrow BRING SOMETHING TO DRINK (i.e. bottle of red wine [its winter, no whites], whiskey, 151, hpnotiq, etc.) its common courtesy.

light blue shirt day 2: dress it up (rugby spread contrast collar)

holy smokes.  anyone can dress up a light blue shirt no problem.  it will go with nearly any color, even other blues.  this shirt is from ralph lauren rugby and has a contrast spread collar and french cuffs to help you get in touch with the 1%.  

funny story about this jacket, i promise.  it was my birthday this past july and i was looking for a bathroom because we been drinkin.  i turned a corner and found a billy reid sample sale.  i figure there might be a bathroom in the room.  i try on a jacket, love it, (unstructured, unlined, tab collar, double vented, only thing id change is the plastic buttons for MOP) and buy it.  happy birthday to me right?  when i’m paying i look up and see a bathroom, it was 15ft past the sample sale.  some call it fate, i call it impulse shopping.  

tomorrow well dress it down.  way down.  lower…lower…TOO LOW…perfect.

gettin real preppy on waydu.

light blue shirt series: day 1, ralph lauren custom fit.

every blogger agrees that you can never have too many light blue shirts.  dress em up, dress em down, give em to your girl to wear in the morning.  sleep in em (i have). they are the most useful item in your wardobe.  the carbon atom of the closet.  

this outfit is a no brainer and any body type can pull it off.  blue shirt on top, tan/brown cords or chinos on bottom.  loafers and a blue jacket.  i love the simplicity of it and the textures of the oxford cloth corduroy give it a very prep feel.  PAGING F.E. CASTLEBERRY IM READY FOR MY CLOSEUP.

this shirt is ralph lauren custom fit.  you can find em for around $35 at marshalls.  the aren’t as slim as a rugby shirt or a esf from brooks brothers but they are still much more trim than a typical sport shirt.  for reference i am a 40R in suits, 32 waist in pants and wear mediums.  this shirt is 15.5 collar and a 34/35 sleeve.

tomorrow?  we dress up a light blue shirt.  stay tuned.
